Recipe : Ring Samosa

Samosa is a very popular snack or appetiser prepared with maida dough and filling from potatoes, onions, meat peas or lentils. There are many shapes can be found in the preparation of samosa based on the regions and this ring samosa recipe is also one of them prepared in India. It is circular in shape and filled with potato filling and fried.

The word samosa is derived from Persian language known as sanbosag. History of samosas can also be traced back to 9th century originally. It was spread to India and Indian subcontinents by Turkish dynasties. Today you can see samosa every where, it has become a very popular snack in India and also in other countries of Africa and South east Asia.

Ring samosa is a samosa shaped like a ring prepared with potato filling. It is also very easy to prepare and tastes crispy and delicious. You can also add any other filling of your choice in this recipe. To prepare this delicious crispy snack you have to just follow the simple steps which I have described in detail below: 

Preparation time : 30 minutes 

Servings : 4 

Ingredients Required: 

1. Refined Flour : 2 large cups (approx 300  gms)

2. Boiled Potatoes : 3 no. 

3. Chopped onions : 1 bowl

4. Chopped Green Chillies : 2 tbsp 

5. Chopped Coriander leaves : 1 small bowl

6. Coriander powder : 1 tbsp 

7. Oil : to fry 

8. Water : as required for kneading 

9. Salt : Taste to taste 

10. Red Chilli powder : 1 tbsp 

11. Ajwain seeds : 1 tbsp 

12. Garam Masala powder: 2 tbsp 

13.Boiled Peas : 1 bowl 

Method of Preparation:

1. Firstly, take a bowl and add Refined Flour , salt , ajwain seeds , little oil and knead a dough using water. Keep this for 15 minutes rest .

2. Take another bowl , add boiled potatoes & mash them nicely. 

3. Add peas , green chilli & chopped onions & coriander leaves to the mashed potatoes . 

4. Add salt , coriander powder , Garam Masala powder , red chilli powder to the mixture and mix all. 

5. Start making balls of dough just like we make for chapatis. 

6. Roll it using rolling pin & make elongated thin sheets of it. 

7. Lengthwise add the mixture in a straight line (for tutorial ,watch the video given below in the link )

8. Apply some water at the sides of sheet. 

9. Fold it into halfway and put cut marks to the half open part of sheet. 

10. Now roll over this open cut part to the folded part .

11. Twist it and form a ring & bind a knot at the ends . 

12. Heat oil in a frying pan on medium flame & deep fry these ring Samosa . 

13. Fry till golden brown in colour & then serve with any chutney or ketchup .
